I am late to the New Year intentions party. Luckily, today is the Lunar New Year, or the Chinese New Year, which is just as beautiful and refreshing.
Today I celebrate the New Year 2019 as well as the Lunar New Year. Having just turned 30 a week and a half ago, it feels like an especially perfect time to bring my intention into fruition by writing it out and sharing.
2019. A new Beginning. Starting fresh is always something I look forward to, and this year it has extra special meaning to me. My baby is starting to not look like such a baby anymore (I don’t want to talk about it). I am finally feeling more like myself and like I can do more things for me. The first year of my daughter’s life I have been committed to her above all else, and I want to start doing more things for myself. Whether it be self care or going after the things I want in life, I am ready to take that plunge.
When the New Year was approaching, I read an Instagram post from Rachel Brathen, also known as Yoga Girl. She shared her New Year’s ritual and I was so inspired. I knew I had to do this, too. Her ritual is to do some reflection and soul searching to figure out what intentions you want to manifest for the New Year. You can check out her blog post that goes more into detail on this. I loved how she summed all of her reflections up in one small word. She said to focus on the feeling you want to have.
This really resonated with me! New Year’s resolutions often don’t get carried through the year because we are only human and cannot be perfect. We slip up once and it becomes easy to blow the whole thing off. But Rachel’s idea of focusing on a feeling you want to have in your heart to be the core of your intention for the year sounded like something I could commit to. So I followed suit and did the same. I took a couple of hours to map out my New Year and what I want from it, and I came up with one word that resonated through all of the goals I wanted to reach:
I want peace. I am peace. I am bringing peace into my life.
There are three main areas in my life where I want to see peace abound:
- My finances
- My mind, body, and spirit
- My home
All year long I am repeating my mantra, “I am peace.” With each decision I make, I want to ask if it will bring peace to one of these areas of my life. If the answer is no, then it doesn’t serve me and I must be strong enough to walk away and let that go.
I Am Peace.
I later realized that after setting these intentions, I can attract this energy to myself all that I want. But that doesn’t change the fact that I have to DO THE WORK.
Peaceful finances won’t just happen. I need to create my business and make it happen with careful planning and strategic actions. I need to budget and track income in order to bring peace to my pocket.
A peaceful mind, body, and spirit won’t just appear. I need to practice meditation, yoga, visualization, and speak positive affirmations. I need to put all of these practices into motion in order to bring my Self to a peaceful state.
A peaceful home won’t just form. I need to bring in ideas and processes in order to rid my home of all of the clutter and “things” that I don’t really need or feel excited about (Konmari Method, anyone?). I need to bring peace into my family relationships as a part of this peaceful home that I envision.
After thinking this all through and truly seeing what bringing peace into these three areas of my life will do, I realized that having Peace be my 2019 mantra is a way of cleansing. I am cleansing all of the practices that do not bring this peace into my world or serve me and getting rid of that negative energy. I am attracting and manifesting peace, and by focusing on these three specific areas with actionable steps in place, I am creating this peace platform for my entire life. These three areas are what I am choosing to focus on, but it truly is all intertwined and connected with each space in my heart.
The good news is you can change something in your life or within yourself at ANY time.
It doesn’t have to be a New Year or even a new month. YOU have the power to CREATE CHANGE whenever and wherever you desire. All you have to do is set the intention, decide how you will get there, and then DO THE WORK.
So now I challenge you to pick a feeling you want to bring into your life, no matter what time of the year it is. Pick an intention that will allow you to speak and live your truth. I challenge you to look inside yourself. Do some journaling or reflection and really search for that feeling you want to center your life around. Sit with that feeling. Get to know your desire, and let it fill you up.
What is it you want to change? What do you want for your life? YOU are capable. YOU can make monumental things happen in your life. You are in the driver’s seat! Share with me the word or feeling you want to bring into your life in the comments. I would love to be inspired by you!
