We often talk or hear about our mind, body, and spirit all being in alignment. This means that they are connected. That your thoughts you have are connected and the same as the feelings you have and your actions that you take each day. It means that they are fluid and all working towards the same end goal. It is easy to think we are in alignment when we actually aren’t.
When I Realized I was Out of Alignment
Let me tell you what I mean. Yesterday I was taking a shower. During the shower I was thinking about whatever thoughts entered my mind, and my arms were washing my body, my hair, and so on. These things were all happening at the same time.
And at the end of my shower, I thought to myself, “What was I even just thinking about?” Then I asked myself, “What did I even just do in the shower?” I was just going through the motions without being present with any of it. The whole experience was a blur.
That’s when alignment clicked for me. My mind and my body were on completely different planes. They were in no way connected at all. My body was just robotically doing one thing while my mind was thinking of everything, but nothing at all. And I can’t remember what I was thinking about, and I can’t remember what it is my body even did during that shower. I didn’t feel anything or connect with how I was feeling. My mind, body, and spirit were all imbalanced and not serving each other.
And when these three planes are not aligned and balanced, it is impossible to connect to your soul and core desires.
Why Mind, Body, and Soul Alignment Matters
I keep telling myself I want all parts of my life to be in alignment. That I want my mind, body, and spirit to be working towards the same soul goals. That I want my mind, body, and spirit to be on the same plane with the same outcome in mind.
And yesterday I realized they aren’t. My body, mind, and spirit are not communicating or connecting with each other. My body, mind, and spirit are screaming different things. How can I expect to align my soul goals with my life when all these different parts of me are not yet working together?
Yesterday morning I wrote down a quote I heard:
“Thoughts, feelings, and actions must align.”
I didn’t know what it would mean to me later, but I felt connected to it and wrote it down. And then I had this realization in the shower about how the reason I am always struggling to make choices and organizing my plans is because I am not in alignment.
I didn’t know this quote I wrote down would be coming full circle. My thoughts (mind), feelings (spirit), and actions (body) must align. And until they do, I won’t be confident in choices I make. I have to get all these parts of me on the same page in order to make progress towards my soul goals. I won’t be able to fulfill my core desires until I can get my thoughts, feelings, and actions into alignment.
How to Get Mind, Body, and Spirit into Alignment
Do you feel unaligned, too? Do you want your mind, body, and spirit to start talking to each other so your actions can all be on the same page and on the same path? You will be able to define your core desires and go after them with much more force when these three parts of you are working together. There are some ways to get in touch with your soul and align these areas of your life with who you are in your core:
- One thing you can do is journal. That is what I did yesterday and how all of these thoughts came tumbling out of me. Journaling allows you to explore ideas, and the physical act of writing helps you to make connections in your brain that you might not normally make. Try journaling once in the morning and once at night. You can follow the same prompts or just write freely whatever your soul is telling you. This is a great way to form connections between your thoughts and feelings in order to create soul-inspired action!
- Another thing you can do is meditate. Meditation helps you to be more present. It helps you to go within and quiet those thoughts that are always interrupting your daily life and decisions. Set a timer for just 5 minutes if you are just getting started and focus on your breath. As you breathe in, think the word “in” and focus on how your breath feels entering your body. Then as you breathe out, do the opposite and think the word “out” while you focus on how the breath feels exiting your body. It helps to focus on just one area, like your belly or your chest, and recognize those sensations you feel on your in and out breaths as they are occurring. This practice will help you to connect with your core being and feel what is within your center.
- Do some yoga. Yoga is another practice that helps you to connect your body with your mind and your spirit directly. The practice uses breathwork and body postures to calm your mind and bring you into the present moment. Many times yoga begins with a special mantra, too so that you can dedicate your practice to an intention you would specifically like to focus on. When you are doing postures with your body while breathing with each movement and focusing on this with your mind, you force yourself to be present and connect on all three planes that can then connect to your soul.
- Lastly, you can practice visualization. Visualizing something you wish to manifest requires your focus. It requires you to FEEL what it is you would feel if that thing you want was already yours. You have to be present in body, mind, and spirit in order to be connected enough to feel these feelings. You must close your eyes and picture what it would look like for your visualization to come into fruition. Your body, mind, and spirit work together to create this sensation inside of you. It is impossible to visualize correctly without these three planes being connected. In order for you to see it, feel it, and BELIEVE it as if it already has happened, your body, mind, and spirit must all be activated and working together.
Final Word on Alignment of Body, Mind, and Spirit
If you feel your mind, body, and spirit are not in alignment, you can take steps to get there. Create connection in your life using the above techniques so that you can dig deep into your soul and identify your inner desires and live that outwardly through your life. You can also look at my self-care post for other ideas that encourage you to take time out for yourself, in turn strengthening these areas of yourself.
Without the three areas of mind, body, and spirit being in alignment, you will not be able to ever know your true soul desires. Try to bring the above ideas into a daily practice so that you can be working on aligning your thoughts, feelings, and actions. They will be so much more powerful when they are aligned and working together toward your soul goal.
